This is the first inspiration pic that I have been drawn to for our kitchen renovation. I was so excited to see the backsplash with a bit of sparkle- Marianna described it as “mermaid’s tail”.
I love the hint of glam for my new kitchen.
The backsplash here is a neutral glass mosaic, and there are mirrors outside of the two cabinets.
Obviously this is a bar section of the kitchen, but the light reflected from the glass and mirrors is just enough.
Once again I love this backsplash because of the way if reflects light and adds a touch of sparkle. This kitchen(above) is a bit too busy for me, but I like the not quite bright white-ness and the backsplash. There is almost too much reflection going on here! The lights appeal to me also as they don’t distract from the artistry of the backsplash
yet have a whisper of green as does the iridescence of the backsplash.
Ellen Pruitt with Studio 3 design group is guiding us through the entire design process. She is one EXTREMELY organized lady when it comes to planning the details of a kitchen/room renovation. This is not our first rodeo with kitchen renovation–our third! However, we have never knocked out walls as we are with this one-so that is new!!
Ellen and I headed to a local tile/stone store to look at the “mermaid” glass in person.
I was immediately drawn to this one by Sonoma.
The blues, grays, ivory, turquoise are all some of my favorite colors.
We took this sample too, because it is closest to the inspiration pics above.
It is a good idea to take several samples home with you to put them in your light and your room.
So far, I have decided that there is enough reflection and color in the more neutral piece(2nd photo above) than the more colorful one. I have come to appreciate a more subtle back drop, but adding pops of color that can be easily changed out.
You can still see the blue, turquoise, gold and silver in this piece without having such bold color.
There is, however, a shorter brick version which I will pick up tomorrow for comparison.
Stay tuned, sharing the process is my therapy!
